Give Yourself a Getaway You Deserve!

Sam's Outdoor OutfittersLately I’ve been thinking about leisure time. It seems like we have to claim it for ourselves, or we just keep on “doing”, whether it’s work, or taking care of family or the house, whatever. In order to really rest and rejuvenate, we need to make a plan and get away from all of those day to day activities. So, here’s a plan for you:

Find a time when you and your favorite traveling companion are free, and come spend an evening or two at the Chesterfield Inn. You can check in any time after 2:00, hopefully with enough time to go over to Brattleboro, Vermont, and poke around a bit. I like to walk down Main Street and wander through the shops, look for some treasures to take home, or a new winter coat or hiking boots at Sam’s Outdoor Outfitters. Back to the inn for tea or a glass of wine before dinner, and then dinner for two out on the terrace under the stars. Early to bed, and up for a hearty breakfast in the morning.

Saturday morning, I’d head over to the Brattleboro Farmer’s Market and get the makings for lunch as well as some locally made items to enjoy back at home. Then I’d head back to Chesterfield for a hike on the trails through Madame Sherri’s Forest, with lunch in the big rock beside Indian Pond, at the top of the hill on the trail past the ruins of Madame Sherri’s house. Then back to the inn for the true luxury of an afternoon nap. By 6:00 or so, I’d be out in the Adirondack chairs overlooking the meadow, sipping a cocktail before dinner, then making the short walk to the dining room for dinner.

Another restful night’s sleep, a delicious breakfast, and there would still be time to go over to Keene, just 15 minutes away, to explore a bit before the drive back home. You can use the time in the car to plan your next getaway!
